Underground Service Locators and Installations

Underground service locators and installations are made easy with Samark Electrical. Based in Cairns, Samark Electrical service the entire North Queensland region, from Cardwell to the Tablelands, across the Cape and even up to the Torres Strait Islands.

As one of the few Cairns-based cable and utility locating service providers to also have experienced, qualified electricians on staff, we’re able to locate your underground services, isolate them and assist with any new installations or existing system maintenance and/or upgrades.

Our people, products and equipment are available to assist with projects across Cairns city and surrounding regions. We’ve got the qualifications, licenses, policies, insurances and certifications to work on private and public contracts. Locating underground services and providing electrical (and other) installations is something we specialise in. A few recent examples of our work, is as follows.

Tanks Arts Centre. Tanks Arts Centre is a heritage listed site, located on Collins Avenue at the bottom of Mount Whitfield in Edge Hill. This contemporary arts centre occupies the site of a former fuel storage facility, which was created during World War II. The concrete tanks used to hold a crude type of furnace oil, which was pumped underground to a fueling jetty in Trinity Inlet. They have since been transformed into visual, performance, musical and community arts spaces and venues.

Located inside the bund walls, adjacent to the main entry gates of Tanks Arts Centre, is a large fig tree, which is sometimes illuminated at night for functional and aesthetic purposes. Tanks wanted to upgrade their lighting capabilities at the Fig Tree but were conscious of the number of underground services already on site. Samark Electrical was contracted to hydrovac excavate the site, allowing lighting work to be completed. Hydrovac excavation is non-destructive digging, using high pressurized water to ‘dig’ into the ground. Despite problematic access to the heritage listed site, Samark Electrical completed the hydrovac excavation at Tanks Arts Centre in a timely and professional manner.

Redlynch Road. When you want precision digging and utility locating, Samark Electrical are the team for the job. We were recently tasked to install guard rails on the busy Redlynch Road. The project footprint was small and we used our specialist equipment and personnel to complete the job. Just another successful project for Samark Electrical.

Bill Fulton Bridge, Brinsmead. Everyone in Cairns knows about this project and it’s just another one that Samark Electrical has been proud to be associated with. Our services provided in conjunction with the Bill Fulton Bridge construction include the bridge pier installation and underground service location. We worked with the Queensland Department of Main Roads for this one and have all the appropriate licenses and certifications to work on projects for private and public contracts.
